While 2014 is over and 2015 is moving forward, there is no better time to look forward to the big films and TV shows on the horizon next year. Jurassic World, Star Wars Episode VII, Spectre (Bond 24), Avengers: Age of Ultron and Mad Max: Fury Road are just a few films set for release. As for TV, the return of some of 2014’s biggest shows are coming back, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead and Gotham are just some of the shows returning, as well as some brand new shows.

Jurassic World coming in 2015Jurassic World is set to be one of the most hotly anticipated films of the year, arriving over 20 years since the original was released back in 1993. Playing the lead role of Owen is Chris Pratt, who has had a huge year for himself in 2014.

The Parks and Recreation actor shot to the big time starring as the lead in Guardians of the Galaxy and now is set to star alongside Bryce Dallas Howard and Jake Johnson in Jurassic World. Isla Nublar has now been a fully operational dinosaur themed park for 10 years, the dream of John Hammond finally fulfilled. But crowd numbers are on the decline and the park’s operators need to do something to peak the public’s interest yet again. But that doesn’t quite go to plan. Jurassic World is scheduled for release in June 2015.

JJ Abrams kicked up a frenzy on the internet with the release of the first teaser trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. With the burden of carrying one of the biggest film series of all time on his shoulders, Abrams has a tough act to follow as the first Star Wars film not to be written or directed by George Lucas. After the disappointment of the prequels, fans are hoping Abrams can restore the franchise to the classic trilogy’s standard. Episode VII is set for release in December 2015.

As for 2014, its been another great year for films. After dominating the box office for many years with The Batman trilogy and Inception, Christopher Nolan returned to the big screen in 2014 with Interstellar, the incredible space epic which was an equally epic success at the box office. Making more than $636 million worldwide, Nolan’s spectacular film had to be seen on the big screen, at an iMax no less, for the full experience (Nolan chose to shoot on 70mm for the best visual experience), and did not disappoint. The biggest winner of 2014 is Michael Bay’s fourth instalment, Transformers: Age of Extinction, which grossed more than $1.087 billion worldwide. This is largely thanks to China where the film became the top grossing movie of all time, making $222.7 million at the box office.
